Do you and your family need a break from all the hustle and bustle of modern life? Are you burned out from work, school, and after-school activities? Are you looking for an affordable vacation that the whole family will enjoy?

Broken Bow, Oklahoma, is a small city in southeastern Oklahoma. Nestled at the foothills of the Ouachita Mountains, Broken Bow is a nature lover’s dream and draws travelers from all around. It has one of the largest man-made lakes in Oklahoma, named Broken Bow lake, as well as a Beavers Bend State Park and Mt Fork River. We have collected a list of the best things to do in Broken Bow, but this is far from all the area has to offer! Rent a cabin from Broken Bow Waterfront Rentals and come see for yourself.

Take in the Splendor of Broken Bow Lake

Enjoy boating, paddle boarding, kayaking, swimming, and even jet skis! Broken Bow lake truly has it all– this pristine man-made lake is fed by cold mountain streams and has fantastic fishing year-round. The clear waters are great for swimming, floating, or tubing. If you don’t want to bring your own equipment, you can rent kayaks and canoes from one of the nearby rental shops. For those looking for some fast-paced fun, boats and jet skis can be rented by the hour from Beavers Bend Marina.

Enjoy Some Local Wine and Beer

Despite being a small city, Broken Bow is home to many excellent vineyards and distilleries. Most of these locations feature outdoor lounging areas, perfect for a glass of wine by the firepit or a beer under the stars. Breweries include Beavers Bend Brewery, which has a rotating selection of craft beer brewed on-site, and Mt Fork Brewery, which makes its beer with water from the Mt. Fork River! For vineyards, there is Fish Tales Winery as well as Girls Gone Wine! Do a tasting on-site and pick a bottle of your favorite to enjoy in your cabin!

Take a Hike in Beavers Bend State Park

Whether you are looking for a laid-back nature stroll or you want to hike tough terrain on the skyline trail, Beavers Bend State Park has something for everyone. This gorgeous nature preserve has hundreds of miles of trails with varying difficulty. When hiking, you might get to see local wildlife, such as turkeys, deer, and even bald eagles! Beavers Bend State Park features stunning views of the mountain ranges and the lake. Several trails cross over creeks for an interactive experience– kids will love exploring nature up close! Pack a picnic or order lunch to go to get the most out of this nature experience

Visit a Museum in Broken Bow

Broken Bow is rich with local history and indigenous artwork. Check out the Forest Heritage museum, just inside Beavers Bend State Park. The museum even has a nature walk featuring indigenous artwork on the property!

In addition, the Forest Heritage museum boasts 14 dioramas, all done by celebrated painter Harry Rossoll who created the character “Smokey the Bear” to teach Americans about the dangers of forest fires. The exhibits range in subject matter from the lives of indigenous tribes in the area to what Broken Bow looked like as a prehistoric forest. There are also displays of old forestry tools and documents used by early settlers, as well as an expansive collection of chainsaw art.
